Smart Women On Purpose

Mihri Hatun, a lady poet who wrote many centuries ago. “A talented women is better than a thousand untalented men, and a women of understanding is better than a thousand stupid men.”

GBTA SA with Robyn Christie – Just Saying… are committed to the growth of Smart Women on Purpose within the travel industry and to growing a community of professional women. There is a need to promote women in the travel industry and to assist and guide them to achieve their potential and to help them become Smart Women on Purpose.

A smart woman is a brand of her own.  She is well respected, an incredible woman who is well prepared and leaves her emotions at the door. She does her job 100 times better than she is expected to do.

Do your homework

Doing your homework will become similar to doing research. The better prepared you are, the more confidently you will be able to present yourself – whether it is for a presentation, an interview for a job or before meeting a new client.

Information is power. It will make you stand out from the crowd. Knowledge will help you to earn respect and build your reputation. Being well prepared will show that you cared enough to take the time.

It is not necessary to do voluminous research. By adding what you have learned into the conversation, your peers are more likely to listen to you.  If you are heard then the chances of your reputation will grow exponentially.

Natural Leaders

Those born with the natural traits of a good leader can go on to be great leaders with knowledge and practice, but you can also learn to be a good leader by embracing the right training and acquiring the necessary knowledge.

Whether leadership is natural to you or not, you can still become a good leader.

Being able to lead naturally does not mean that you know what you are doing. A natural leader will empower people and inspire them, whether it’s intentional or not.

A natural leader is usually the center of a group of people. This doesn’t mean everyone who is the center of their group of friends is a natural leader, but it can be an early indicator. In most cases a natural leader will not be trying to lead, they are just being themselves and following their vision while others choose to go along with them.

It is important to know who the natural leaders are, they have the ability to influence your team. Not always in the way you would approve.

You can learn to become a leader. Learned traits are:

Strategic thinking, decisive, good communication, wise, loyal and inclusive.

Create your unique brand

It is important to create your own unique brand that embodies the qualities you have a high regard for. When choosing your brand you can look what brands you admire, what makes them special to you.  Decide what is important to you and what do you want to achieve.

Have a Strategy

Brand Identity is the way that you convey this to the public with visuals, messaging, and experience. Your brand strategy will influence how you present your identity and align it with your purpose for the most impact.

There are four questions you should ask yourself when defining a brand purpose:

  • Why do you exist?
  • What differentiates you?
  • What problem do you solve?
  • Why should people care?

Gather the facts

To know where you’re heading, you have to know where you are right now. So before you start looking ahead, you should review the past performance, or the current situation.

Look at each area of the business and determine what worked well, what could have been better and what opportunities lie ahead.

There are many tools and techniques available to help with this process, such as SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats) analysis.

Go further – go the extra mile and put in the effort with the right attitude and with energy.

Do things correctly the first time, listen to what is being said.  Ask questions to gain a clear understanding.

Social Media

Have a credible presence on social media.  Your words can come back to haunt you. Anything you say in the real world can quickly be posted on social media. … If you make one hiccup and say the wrong thing, it can quickly spread across social media like the plague and shatter your reputation.
