GBTA: Your Global Hub for Business Travel®

The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) is the world’s premier business travel and meetings organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. area with operations on six continents. GBTA advocates for policies that better the business travel industry, representing travel buyers and the travellers they manage. Business travellers are a consistently underrepresented constituency, despite the fact that the business travel industry represents $1.3 trillion in business travel and meetings expenditures annually. Business travel is also a major driver for jobs and the economy, responsible for 7.4 million jobs in the United States, 1.2 million jobs in Mexico and nearly a half million jobs in Canada. With more than 9,000 global members, regional partners, 39 local chapters and affiliates, and a network of 30,000 business travel and meetings professionals, GBTA is the voice of the global business travel industry. GBTA actively speaks out on policy issues across the globe and frequently meets with representatives in Washington, D.C. and Brussels in an effort to advance the business travel industry. 

 GBTA Southern Africa

GBTA Southern Africa is the first buyer-led South African business travel and meetings network, created through the merger of ITMSA and GBTA. GBTA Southern Africa is a chapter of the non-profit company GBTA Africa and provides the best possible support, information and opportunities to enable members to achieve best practice in managing travel spend effectively and to maximise the profitability of their organisations. The network ensures for the first time that business travel and meeting professionals with a Southern Africa remit have access to the best education and training, research, benchmarking tools and events through the collective voice of a professional, buyer-led community. 
The network was first established in 2006 as ITMSA and then became GBTA Southern Africa in February 2013 and will be continuously developed over the coming years to ensure a progressive approach in Southern Africa to the sharing of knowledge, best practice and  GBTA Southern Africa promotes the belief that efficient and effective travel management requires good planning, strong negotiation skills, effective communication and a keen knowledge of current trends and business travel providers.

GBTA Southern Africa Aims:

GBTA Southern Africa aims to provide the best possible support, information and opportunities to enable members to achieve best practice in managing their travel spend effectively and to maximise their contribution to the profitability of their organisation. GBTA Southern Africa promotes awareness that efficient and effective travel management not only needs good planning and negotiating skills but also a keen knowledge of current trends and products available in the inter-related sectors of air, ground transportation and hotel accommodation. We aim to consult with government departments; educational establishments; the travel trade and with business organisations in all sectors.

GBTA Southern Africa encourages dialogue and open debate between all parties involved in the supply and purchase of business travel services. We also provide members with meaningful and effective networking opportunities. GBTA Southern Africa contributes to consultative groups involving many of the major airlines, hotel groups and ground transport providers.

We aim to establish and maintain a position as the leading professional body for business travel management in Southern Africa by promoting best practice and a professional code of ethics.
